Base gravel is a mixture of rock and dirt. It is sized at 5/8" minus, which simply means that the largest pieces of rock in it will be 5/8". This mixture is ideal for any project where you need a solid base, but still require sufficient drainage. The most common uses for base gravel are filling post holes, as a base for underneath paving stone projects, a base for driveways, and any other application where you need a solidly compacted surface.
